Visiting childhood friends

I flew from Newcastle International Airport to Hamburg via Shiphol Airport (Amsterdam) on the 4th May, which was my birthday. Booking in was straightforward. I received my boarding card, after presenting my passport and Covid-19 pass (4 printed
sheets: one for each vaccination).
Perhaps, the most stressful part were the security checks of my luggage. I had a travel case with wheels and a small lap top bag. The weight was under 12 kgs. (Keep liquids to
a minimum).
The crew on the KLM/AirFrance hopper flight to Amsterdam gave me a small bag with presents and a card from the crew (good PR). Included was a small bottle of champagne.
The flight to Amsterdam was about an hour with another hour or so wait for the c. 1 hour flight to Hamburg. Flughafen.
Once, I reached Hamburg, I bought an one way adult ticket to my hotel, Meiendorfer Psrk, in the suburb of Hamburg, Meiendorf.I travelled on the S-Bahn, Hochbahn (U-Bahn) and bus. Cost: 3.50 Euros.
The budget hotel was clean, and furnished basically. I had an en suite single room on the first floor. It had a comfortable single bed, a wardrobe, a cantilevered table and a chair. The window of the bedroom faced a first floor terrace, which could be used by guests. Sometimes, the net curtains did not provide enough privacy, so I had to use the electrically-operated external blind. There was a small wall-mounted flat screen tv, but I could not get it to work. It did not really matter, as I had free access to the hotels Wi Fi, and I could entertain myself using my smart phone.
I had breakfast once, which cost 7.90 Euros. There was a good selection of sliced meats, cheese, rolls and bread, fruit drinks, tea snd coffee.
My room was attended fo daily, and I got fresh towels and toilet paper. The staff were very helpful.
The hotel was next to a main road, and nearby there was a good Croation restaurant called the Adria. On the opposite side of the road was an ALDI store, where I could pay for items contactless with my UK Visa debit card. There was also a nearby unmanned Postbank, where I had access to an ATM (cash machine).
A bus, no. 27, stopped nearby, and I could buy an adult day ticket for use after 9 am, and for use in zones A and B ( inner suburbs and city centre)

Not worth a visit

The hotel is worn and tired. In our bathroom the floor tiles are loose and many are broken. The showerenichen has black spots in the corners, and there was hair from previous guests.
Our room faced straight towards a road that is heavily traffic around the clock! Just outside the window is a light pillar, which lights directly into the room, and there are no curtains.
We have no staff seen during our stay when we checked in ourselves and the key code was emailed to us.
The whole house stinks of curry, from the Indian restaurant located on the lower floor.

Extremely bad‼️

We were in Hamburg for a long weekend to have a good time there.
Unfortunately, it was a disaster at the Meiendorfer Park Hotel.
We had room number 19 (family room for 3 people)
This room was not a family room but a "fitter's room" but even for workers such a room is an imposition‼️
The furniture was ancient and thrown together and partially damaged.
The table had a broken corner that was "repaired" with tape.
The room was extremely unkempt, dirty and smelled of nicotine so that you could only stay there with the windows wide open.
There was hair and dirt in the bathroom. The fan in the bathroom under the ceiling was oily yellow-brown from nicotine. On the first morning the shower water was still warm, then lukewarm and on the third morning cold‼️The TV and its surroundings had not been dusted for a long time.
The lamps above the bed had dust, dirt and dead small insects. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. There were light spots on the carpet in front of the bed by the window and I wouldn't be surprised if they were dried bodily fluids. There were also various liquid stains on the walls.
The radiator also seemed not to have been cleaned for a long time. The same goes for the grey-yellow curtains, which smelled extremely of dust and nicotine.
There was an extension cord over 3 metres long with a 3-way socket above the radiator, behind the cupboard up to the table. This long socket cable was in turn connected to a socket extension cable. This represents a significant safety deficiency.
There was a cloth handkerchief and plastic wrap in the cupboard.
The reception was never manned during our stay. Apart from a cleaning lady who did not speak German, there was no one else to contact.
Emails were not answered.
I could go on with the list.
In addition, the website stated a room price of 97 euros for this "room" (without breakfast), but in the booking confirmation it cost 109.33 euros.
Which might have been OK for us if the "room" had been good enough. For this shabby accommodation, it's a disgrace‼️
This room is still available for booking in this hotel today.
I can only advise against staying in this hotel‼️

An excellent small guest house

We stayed here for a couple of days at the end of August,19. A great breakfast. Rooms are small and a little dated but for the price they are perfectly servicable. An excellent small guest house for anyone visiting friends, relatives or business in Rahlstedt. Easy and quick connections to the centre of Hamburg.
We would recommend this friendly family run business
