Excellent experience in AMARI Ko Samui, second time in this hotel

Not bad but not good
Revisited after several years for a special birthday and the hotel team organised some special treats for the occasion.
Previously we had stayed in the garden wing which now has an additional pool and bar. ( Su looked after us very well). Given our age we were surprised to be given a room on the top floor (third), without a lift this was stretching (!) and give them their due they did offer a swap after a couple of days, with hindsight we should have swapped.
The running of wires to the rooms means that noise and smells migrate between them as holes behind the desk have not been blocked. We asked for a no smoking room but on arrival it smelled of smoke and cannabis, not good. The hotel provided an ioniser which did help. Simpler would be to make whole wings no smoking, rather than individual rooms. Also retrofit sound baffling in the rooms.
The pillows had to be changed as all four stank of sweat, I have no idea why housekeeping didn’t change them. That is unacceptable and they were swapped out very quickly.
Interestingly the rooms have been refurbished since we were last there but along with the lack of soundproofing there just aren’t enough sockets in usable areas. Normally 5 star hotels have a bank of sockets on the desk plus more by the bed. There is one socket on the desk (used for the kettle), plus a usb point. There are two sockets behind the sofa and a further two in the hall. Baffling and not easily usable
Sitting on the balcony you were smoked out, tobacco and cannabis were prevalent so no respite indoors or outdoors.
Cannabis was legalised a little while ago in Thailand so that is not the hotel’s fault but they need to manage the smokers around the hotel and pool area.
They also need to manage the boorish people whether around the pool or in the breakfast area, poor behaviour from adults and children needs challenge
Breakfast is a game of two halves. There is a good selection but there is a sticking point around the egg station which really needs two people to reduce the queues, and please warm the poached eggs thoroughly before serving.
On checking out I was asked to sign for a missing glass and teaspoon which housekeeping reported. The glass was broken on the nightstand and my husband put the teaspoon in the broken glass so it was clear it was broken- a member of housekeeping removed it, why on earth did I have to sign for them?

Perfect location, friendly staff
Well maintained, luxurious hotel with very friendly staff. The location is perfect: close to the tussle of Chaweng but in a very quiet area. The hotel has its own, clean beach

Memorable first visit to Koh Samui
Lovely hotel and super location at the quieter end of Chaweng beach. Our room was lovely with a garden view over the new third pool. The staff at the pool bar were very attentive and any orders delivered to room or sunbed within 10-15 mins, room service for food was also very prompt.
All staff were attentive, plates cleared quickly at breakfast. Reception staff and all the concierge staff were helpful and attentive, always with a smile.
The rooms would benefit from humidifiers to eradicate humidity leading to damp clothing, during periods of high humidity.
There is a busy road at the front of the hotel which needs to be crossed to access rooms in the Village and Garden wings, this was manned by an attendant who stopped traffic to enable safe crossing.
All in all a great hotel in a great location with great staff.
